Arkansas has one of the lowest COVID-19 vaccination rates in the country, leaving many state residents vulnerable to the virus. In an interview with the Eureka Springs Independent published today (June 16), ACHI President and CEO Dr. Joe Thompson warns that as Arkansans relax their guard, new outbreaks are possible wherever people are unprotected.

“Where there are high levels of unvaccinated people, that is exactly what this virus is looking for as an opportunity to strike,” Thompson tells the newspaper.

Thompson also discusses the effectiveness of the vaccines, concerns around emerging coronavirus variants, and how to talk to people who are hesitant to get vaccinated.

More information about the pandemic is available on our COVID-19 in Arkansas page.
