This week, the Arkansas Department of Health began reporting COVID-19 vaccination data. As of yesterday (Jan. 7), 61,288 of the 194,325 doses received have been given since Dec. 14, 2020. Vaccinations in Arkansas are currently in Phase 1A and are available for healthcare workers; long-term care facility residents and staff; EMS, fire, and law enforcement personnel who serve as first responders; and other high-priority groups.

The state set another grim record with 1,326 people hospitalized with COVID-19 as of yesterday. In the first seven days of the year Arkansas also reported new daily case counts that exceeded 4,000 cases for the first time, with 4,304 new cases reported on Jan. 1 and 4,107 new cases reported on Tuesday, Jan. 5. Since March, there have been 245,916 cases and 3,926 deaths among confirmed and probable cases.

According to the Arkansas Department of Health’s Educational Institutions Report released on Thursday, Jan. 7, there are 2,853 active cases among staff members, students, and teachers in the state’s public school districts. Total positive cases increased by 239 since the Monday report to 27,016, of which 18,057 are student cases.
