The latest guidance on masking from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says that most fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing masks. But in Arkansas, which has one of the lowest vaccination rates and one of the highest COVID-19 case rates in the nation, two of the state’s top health experts say that even fully vaccinated people may want to continue masking up in public.

ACHI President and CEO Dr. Joe Thompson and state Epidemiologist Dr. Jennifer Dillaha share their thoughts on the topic in a story from THV11.

Thompson says continuing to wear a mask after being fully vaccinated is a matter of personal choice, but it can send an important message.

“For those individuals that have not moved from unprotected to protected by getting a vaccine, it reminds them that the threat is still present,” he tells reporter Mercedes Mackay.

More information about the pandemic is available on our COVID-19 in Arkansas page.
