ACHI President and CEO Dr. Joe Thompson discussed COVID-19 vaccinations for young children in an appearance on Arkansas PBS’ “Arkansas Week” on Friday, Nov. 5.

Thompson joined host Donna Terrell Lambert and fellow guest Dr. Jessica Snowden, chief of the Division of Pediatric Infectious Disease at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, for the discussion. The “Arkansas Week” episode was recorded within days of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention authorizing the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccines for use in children ages 5 to 11.

Thompson and Snowden said the vaccine is safe and effective, and that the risk of side effects is far less than the risk of serious health impacts from COVID-19.

“This is about, are you going to protect, yourself, your family, your children against a new threat that could claim their life ― the delta variant of COVID-19 or a future variant that could come?” Thompson said.
