Dr. Joe Thompson, ACHI president emeritus and medical director and a professor of pediatrics and public health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), was inducted Saturday, October 17, into the National Academy of Medicine, a congressionally chartered organization that serves as the scientific academy of the United States.
Thompson was president and CEO of ACHI for more than 20 years and served as Arkansas’s inaugural surgeon general. He was elected to the National Academy of Medicine’s Class of 2025 last October. Election to the academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine.
Also part of the academy’s Class of 2025 is UAMS faculty member Dr. Aline Andres, a professor of pediatrics and a leading expert in nutrition, particularly as it relates to maternal and infant development.
