The Healthy Birthing Journey Podcast: Well-Child Visits

In the ninth and final episode of the Healthy Birthing Journey Podcast, we explore the role of well-child visits and other efforts to improve infant health outcomes during the first year of life. Guests and topics include:

  • Dr. Natalie Burr of Little Rock Pediatric Clinic discusses the importance of regular well-child visits.
  • Anna Strong with the Arkansas Chapter of the American Academy of Pediatrics highlights policy efforts to help improve infant health.
  • Ashley Bearden Campbell of Arkansans for Improving Maternal Health examines economic challenges new parents can face.
  • Cara Osborne from Ingeborg Initiatives tells us about the Healthy Moms, Healthy Babies America campaign.

Maternal and infant mortality rates in Arkansas are among the highest in the nation, but a wide range of efforts are underway to change that. Here at ACHI, we pulled our analysts and researchers together to envision what a healthy birthing journey should look like and identify points along the way where Arkansas has opportunities to make lasting improvements for our moms, children, families, and communities. We identified nine phases from pre-pregnancy through delivery and into the postpartum period. In this episode, we explore the ninth phase – well-child visits.
