July 9, 2026    |   ACHI Staff

Arkansas’s rate of maternity care deserts, i.e., counties with no birthing hospitals and no obstetric care providers, is one of the highest in the country, according to the March of Dimes. ACHI President and CEO Craig Wilson discusses Arkansas’s challenges with access to maternity care, and ways to address it, in a story by Northwest Arkansas public radio station KUAF that also features comments from Dr. William “Sam” Greenfield, a professor of obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences.
