As momentum grows for regulation of electronic cigarettes, ACHI has created an infographic illustrating key events in the history of tobacco policy efforts at the national level and in Arkansas.

The infographic shows that existing tobacco restrictions imposed by the government and self-imposed by the tobacco industry came about over several decades following the emergence of scientific evidence of the harmful effects of smoking and exposure to secondhand smoke. In contrast, it has not taken decades for the harmful effects of vaping to become apparent and for policymakers to develop a sense of urgency around the issue.

The Arkansas House and Senate Public Health, Welfare and Labor committees are conducting a study on vaping in the interim between sessions. See a roundup of news coverage here.
