No reliable data exist on how many businesses have adopted such policies, but trends indicate that adoption is more widespread in health care than other business sectors. For example, hospitals in Florida, Georgia, Missouri, Tennessee, and Texas, among others, recently stopped hiring smokers and more are openly exploring the option.
