ACHI Health Policy Director Craig Wilson writes in an op-ed for the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette that the way we think about the health risks of vaping tends to be skewed by a common cognitive bias: the anchoring effect.

“The vaping industry has been masterful in its use of anchoring. Its strategy has been to frame our perceptions about the risk of vaping by comparing it to the risk of smoking ―a ‘lesser of two evils’ approach,” Wilson writes in the piece, which argues that instead of comparing vaping to smoking, we should compare it to not vaping.
