
Dr. Joe Thompson, ACHI president emeritus and a professor of pediatrics and public health at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), has been elected to the National Academy of Medicine, a congressionally chartered organization that serves as the scientific academy of the United States. Thompson was president and CEO of ACHI for more than 20 years and served as Arkansas’s inaugural surgeon general. UAMS announced today the elections of Thompson and another UAMS faculty member, Dr. Aline Andres, a professor of pediatrics and a leading expert in nutrition, particularly as it relates to maternal and infant development. Election to the academy is considered one of the highest honors in the fields of health and medicine.
