COVID-19 in Arkansas: A Weekly Snapshot, Feb. 5”’Feb. 12, 2021

On Tuesday, Feb. 9, Gov. Asa Hutchinson provided an update regarding the Federal Retail Pharmacy Program. Fifty-eight Walmart stores were to receive 11,600 COVID-19 vaccines doses this week. As of today (Feb. 12), 452,208 of the 718,200 doses received or allocated had been administered since vaccinations in the state began on Dec. 14.

As of today, current hospitalizations for COVID-19 in Arkansas declined to 712 from 808 on Feb. 5. The Arkansas Department of Health reported 203 new COVID-19 deaths from Feb. 5 through today, bringing the total to 5,212. Since March, there have been 311,608 cases among confirmed and probable cases.

According to the Arkansas Department of Health’s Educational Institutions Report released Thursday, there are 2,130 active cases among staff members, students, and teachers in the state’s public school districts. Total positive cases increased by 667 since the Monday report to 40,704, of which 27,253 are student cases.

At colleges and universities, there are 411 active cases. The three institutions with the most active cases are:

  • University of Arkansas in Fayetteville with 57 cases
  • Lyon College in Batesville with 34 cases
  • University of Central Arkansas in Conway with 29 cases

Total positive cases increased by 147 since the Monday report to 13,428 cases. Of these, 9,762 are student cases.

There are 102 school districts with high new infection rates — 95 in the red zone and seven in the purple zone. School districts in the red zone have had 50 to 99 new known infections per 10,000 community residents during a 14-day period, as of Monday, Feb. 8. School districts in the purple zone have had 100 or more new known infections per 10,000 community residents, or at least 1% of residents, during a 14-day period.
