In June 2014, a request was answered by the Arkansas Center for Health Improvement (ACHI) to provide body mass index (BMI) data, classified by race and ethnicity, for the Rogers and Springdale School Districts. This information aided in a successful application by UAMS Northwest for funding through the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Racial and Ethnic Approaches to Community Health (REACH) program. The three year, $2.99 million grant will be used to address heatlh disparities in the Hispanic and Marshallese communities in Benton and Washington Counties by increasing access to preventive mneasures and healthier food options as well as reducing associated risks.
