Arkansas Health Care Workforce: An Overview

As the state embarks upon health care system transformation, including expanding health insurance coverage to more Arkansans, payment improvement, increased use and enhancement of health information technology, workforce development is a crucial component of a viable, efficient health care system. Arkansas currently does not have an adequate health care workforce in many areas of the state. Thoughtful planning provides an opportunity not only to ensure adequate future access to health care but to create a system of care that is less costly, more efficient and capable of dramatically improving the health and productivity of Arkansans.

As part of the overall Health System Improvement Initiative, ACHI has undertaken key projects to guide and inform policy development with a goal of ensuring that an adequate health care workforce is available to all Arkansans.
