Hospital-associated infection (HAI) is a nationwide problem, but as this article from The Advisory Board Company points out, some hospitals do a better job than others in preventing HAI. ACHI congratulates the White County Medical Center and CEO Ray Montgomery, a member of the ACHI Health Policy Board, for being recognized by Consumer Reports as one of the nine best hospitals in the U.S. for infection prevention.
According to the CDC, on any given day 1 in 25 hospital patients has at least one HAI and about 75,000 hospital patients with HAIs died during their hospitalizations. If reliable health care quality information like infection prevention was readily available, consumers would have a better opportunity to make informed decisions about where to go for health care.
Thanks to legislation passed this year by the Arkansas General Assembly, this type of reporting may soon be available in Arkansas via the Arkansas Healthcare Transparency Initiative.
